CGI Seeks UN Support to Bolster Gambia’s Manufacturing Sector

The Confederation of Gambian Industries (CGI) has taken a significant step toward strengthening the country's manufacturing landscape by engaging the support of the United Nations.\n\nIn a high-level meeting held on March 17, 2025, CGI officials met with the UN Resident Coordinator in The Gambia, Mr. Karl Frédérick Paul, at the UN House in Cape Point.\n\nDuring the discussions, CGI President Mr. Farimang Saho underscored the urgent need for funding and technical assistance to enable CGI to become fully operational and effectively serve its members. He emphasized that such support is vital for advancing The Gambia’s manufacturing industry, fostering job creation, and addressing global economic challenges.\n\nMr. Paul reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to facilitating collaboration between CGI and relevant UN agencies and development partners. He acknowledged the critical role of manufacturing in economic development and reiterated the UN’s mission to promote coordinated efforts among institutions driving national progress.\n\nThe meeting also highlighted the positive impact of previous support from development partners, which has significantly contributed to CGI’s efforts in building a solid industrial base in The Gambia.\n\nLooking ahead, CGI is optimistic that enhanced collaboration with the UN will accelerate its impact, creating a more dynamic and competitive manufacturing environment in the country.\n\nThe session concluded on a hopeful note, with CGI officials expressing confidence in the UN’s readiness to support their vision.
